Chesterfield County

Few would have imagined thirty years ago that Chesterfield County would have a Department of Revitalization.  This suburban county's rapid growth has been difficult to sustain, and now efforts are focusing on reinvestment in existing infrastructure rather than continued paving of greenfields. PSG is connecting with citizens, organizations, and the Chesterfield County Planning Department about the Comprehensive Plan to ensure a future of balanced growth for Chesterfield County.

The 2010 Census population was 316,236, up 21.7% from 2000.  Click here for a map of 2010 results including growth rates.

Comprehensive Plan

In June 2009, Chesterfield County began development of a new countywide comprehensive plan, a process that will help solidify the county's vision for the future. On January 12, 2011, a draft new comprehensive plan, “Chesterfield Countywide Comprehensive Plan, 2011” was presented at a joint meeting of the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission and School Board. Also on January 12, The Board of Supervisors referred the draft plan to the Planning Commission, directing the Commission to review the plan, hold a public hearing and make a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors no later than the Commission’s July 19, 2011 meeting. The draft plan is currently under review by the Chesterfield County Planning Commission. Click here for more information about the Planning Commission’s review process.
