Participants arrive at Legend Brewing Company, ready to board the three buses and rediscover Richmond through the eyes of our urban expert guides: Rachel Flynn, Director, Dept of Community Development, City of Richmond; Brooke Hardin, Deputy Director, Dept of Community Development, City of Richmond; and Daniel Moore, Principle Planner, Department of Conservation and Recreation.
Guide Rachel Flynn captivates her audience with tales of architecture lost to parking lots and decks and the vast potential for infill development in the City. Disembarking from the bus, Richmonders saunter toward Libby Hill Park...
Guide Daniel Moore points to the bend in the river that William Byrd recognized as remarkably similar to that of Richmond-upon-Thames.
The answer to the question: what's so great about open space?
Guide Brooke Hardin, on the right, answers questions about future plans for this area representative of failed public investment.
Back at Legend Brewing Company Madeline Holdren proudly displays her GRTC "I tried transit today!" button and PSG water bottle donated by Proforma. Perusing the Silent Auction display featuring transportation alternatives and local products, this young smart growth supporter can't decide between the bicycle helmet or the paddles.
Smart growthers enjoy tastings of locally brewed Legend Beer and plates of locally grown heavy hors d'oeuvres. The menu was crafted by Legend's Chef Adamn Hawkins and Assistant Chef Ben Pruett, with consultation provided by Molly Harris of Edible Garden and Lisa Dearden of Center for Rural Culture.
The eclectic roots rock of Richmond's own MOOSSA enlivens and inspires the crowd but doesn't stop enthusiastic conversations about the revitalization of Richmond.
Exhibits from our sponsors and supporting organizations provides participants with educational opportunities and new connections.
PSG is grateful to our many wonderful volunteers who made the success of the day possible!
