Envision Henrico
The Citizen Voice for Henrico's Future

Conservation Tools to Protect Your Land

Saturday, March 20
9 a.m. - 12 noon
Dorey Recreation Center, Dorey Park, Varina District, Henrico County
7200 Dorey Park Drive, Henrico, Virginia 23231

Our reasons for attending will vary.
We are gardeners and farmers.
We are anglers and hunters and birders.
We own fifty acres, and we own five.
Some of us were raised here.
Some spent a lifetime searching for our Henrico home.
But we all love our land.
We all see the region changing, and…

WE ALL HAVE QUESTIONS.

  • Are there tax credits for landowners who want to keep their land green?
  • How does a conservation easement work, and what costs are involved?
  • What’s the minimum acreage for Henrico’s Land Use Taxation program?
  • Will county and state experts really visit my land – free of charge – to map its ecological health and economic potential?
  • How can I make my yard inviting habitat for bobwhite quail and other native species?
  • What defines a tree farm and is it profitable?
  • What are alternatives to pesticide use in garden and yard maintenance?
  • Is my property suitable for wetland mitigation banking?

Purpose: Familiarize landowners with available tools for land conservation

Adopted Henrico County Comprehensive Plan

Envision Henrico looks forward to continuing to work with the County and with citizens to ensure a balanced future for Henrico. The adopted Henrico County 2026 Comprehensive Plan with the amendment introduced by Supervisor Jim Donati reflects citizens wishes to preserve Varina's agricultural heritage and economy. Growth can be channeled to underutilized, already paved over spaces to strengthen existing communities.

Click here for a PDF of a map along a stretch of Broad Street between the City limits and Short Pump. We have built 1440 acres of parking lots for 110 acres of buildings. The potential for infill needs to be a central part of Henrico's future plans for growth.

Our Vision:

Envision Henrico strives toward a county in which growth is managed to provide a healthy and sustainable environment for all its citizens, for future generations, and planned to conserve its vast cultural, historic, and natural resources.

Our Mission:

Envision Henrico will work to preserve and protect Henrico’s land, environment, history, and quality of life, by monitoring and influencing how and where we grow, and by advocating for strong public participation in local land use and transportation decisions.

Our Goals:

Envision Henrico will specifically accomplish the following objectives:

  • Promote better models for development, guided by the principles of smart growth, environmental protection, community character, transportation alternatives, diversified economic development, recreation and parks promotion, watershed protection, and regional cooperation.
  • Promote transparency in Henrico’s government
  • Promote public input as critically important and essential throughout the Comprehensive Plan process.
  • Provide a forum for discussion and review of relevant growth-related and rezoning issues.
  • Inform and connect interested citizens and organize community response as necessary.
  • Coordinate presence at all Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission meetings
  • Partner with federal, state, and local governments, Partnership for Smarter Growth, Virginia League of Conservation Voters-Education Fund, and other organizations, to build a better Henrico together.
